Breed Promotion Group Meeting

The Tasmanian Murray Grey Breed Promotion Group meeting on 11th July at T & R Harris’ property at Swan Bay saw a good turn up of members with 2 new members, Bob Kerr and Lee Bellchambers, welcomed.

As the rain tumbled down and the ocean gulls took refuge on the lower paddocks the members enjoyed enthusiastic discussion and shared ideas in the areas of leadership, mentoring, youth, new members, fundraising, sponsorship, social functions, BPG meetings and advertising to promote Murray Grey Beef Cattle.  These workshops brought forward many great ideas to be discussed at future meetings.  We all enjoyed a hearty meal in the warmth of Terry and Rene’s home while taking in the beautiful view and as though on cue a mob of Murray Grey cattle wandered up towards the house for us all to admire.  The funds from lunch were kindly donated toward the Murray Grey Feature Breed at the Royal Launceston Show 8-10 October 2009.  Sponsorship for the Feature Show is starting to come forward for all classes, if anyone is interested in sponsoring please contact the Breed Promotion Group or post it here on the blog.

New Classes and prizes for MG Feature Show

There will be a new class at the Murray Grey Feature Breed at the Royal Launceston Show.  Calf Class:  calf at foot of females entered in breed classes, to be led by a child 5 to 12 years of age.  Calf must be halter broken and age of calf and child stated on entry form.  Woodbourn Murray Greys are sponsoring the Supreme Exhibit with a cash prize of $250.00, and many more sponsors will be providing fantastic prizes for other classes.

Encourage all young handlers to break in a Murray Grey heifer as the Murray Grey Breed Promotion Group of Tas has taken the wonderful initative to provide a prize of $50 for a handler leading a Murray Grey heifer at  Launceston, Hobart and Circular Head shows.
